Blogging 'bout DECA
A member guide to DECA fundraisers, community service events, and inside news!
Hello DECA members and parents!
Aside from the typical DECA competition, Issaquah DECA has passed on the tradition of participating in the "Community Service Project" (CSP) paper every year. The Community Service Project is a 20-pager modeled after chapter efforts to support a selected charity or non-profit organization. This year, the selected non-profit is a local organization: Athletes for Kids. It is a grassroot organization based around Issaquah, so it allows our DECA chapter to have a personal, more intimate connection than large charities based out of state.
Athletes for Kids pair kids (K-12) with special needs and high school mentors together to form friendships that may be difficult to find for disabled children. Disabled children are bullied and misunderstood, so Athletes for Kids functions to shorten the disconnect between special needs and everyone else. Issaquah DECA, when embarked on the project, adopted our own goal: to promote diversity, acceptance, and friendship in Issaquah.
This Saturday, November 10, Issaquah DECA is planning a Fall Party for the kids and their mentors. Please come by to support and join our party! We will have stations with different craft activities. More information in on the flyer below. When you participate in our project, you will earn community service hours and leadership points for our DECA classes!
If you are interested in becoming a mentor for Athletes for Kids (where you are paired up with a child to spend one hour a week to hang out with him/her), please send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We dish the inside news! Follow this blog to be more informed and involved in our AWESOME DECA chapter.
