Blogging 'bout DECA
A member guide to DECA fundraisers, community service events, and inside news!
Hey guys, welcome to the first DECA Officer blog post. I’m Ally, the Director of Video Advertising, and it wasn’t my choice to be the first officer to write a blog post but hey, sometimes you gotta give the people what they want. We’ve had a busy first month and a half-ish of school, and thanks to dedicated DECA members/supporters like you, we’ve had a lot of success with all of our September-October projects so far. Let’s review what your Issaquah DECA Officers have been up to.
Our main focus right now is our Goodwill Clothing Drive Fundraiser, led by our CFO Isaac Anderson. On Saturday the 13th of this month, we held an extremely successful Goodwill Flier Drop-Off event, where some of our amazing members dedicated their time to driving around local neighborhoods to distribute fliers with word about the fundraiser. It was so dope, we hit up multiple neighborhoods that all responded positively to our efforts. Shoutout to Isaac as well for driving to some of these neighbors’ houses who are unable to attend the actual fundraiser to pick up all of their old clothes, appliances, furniture, etc. for Goodwill’s benefit. That was true homie move, we love some good ol’ DECA dedication. The official Goodwill fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 10 AM - 1 PM, and we would love and appreciate any of your donations or assistance in running the event! Remember that anything smaller than a coffee table can be donated for this event, and if you can’t make it on the 27th, you have the option to leave your items outside your front door on Saturday the 20th from 10 AM to 12 PM; some more dedicated DECA homies will swoop ‘em for you.
Another point of focus for this month has been our Community Service Project, which benefits local, non-profit organization Athletes for Kids. AFK works to enhance the lives of disabled children by partnering them with high school athletes, allowing them to form new friendships and celebrate children of all abilities. Issaquah DECA is so proud to be working this amazing organization as a part of our CSP! This effort has been led by the dynamic duo of Siena Gaston, our Director of Chapter Affairs, and Jasmine Nie, our Director of Public Relations. Issaquah DECA club and class members have been creating beautiful, hand-crafted friendship bracelets to be sold in school, with all proceeds going to the benefit of Athletes for Kids. If you’re a student at IHS, be sure to come support this cause and purchase a bracelet, they will be for sale during both lunches for the next couple of weeks!
Thank you guys for reading this week’s Officer Blog Post, stay tuned every week for a new blog post update on what Issaquah DECA has been up to! Each week, you can expect to hear from a different officer as well, so I’m officially signing out as the first Officer on this blog. Make sure to check out Deca TV on this blog as well, and you can see some other content I’ve been putting out.
Hugs and kisses, xoxo. -- Ally Salvador
